Testimonial from Mr.B in reference to Gary Cooper & Sons.

  General  Reference

I have known Mr Lee Cooper for 18 years. His father, Mr Gary Cooper, runs a contracting and light haulage business and over the years has done a considerable amount of work for me; and Lee has had a leading role in several major projects.  Recently, Lee has taken over the groundworks part of the family business which he now runs independently.

He has shown a genuine aptitude for this type of work, which involves the use of mechanical diggers and earth moving equipment, often to a high degree of accuracy, especially when establishing ground levels using a theodolite, and I have no hesitation in recommending his services.  The work done for me has been to a consistently high standard at all times.  He has successfully run several projects with one or more people under his direction and is a good “problem-solver”.  He works hard and is a young man of the highest integrity.

Current Project

The latest project which Lee has carried out for us involved landscaping an acre of former pony paddock as an extension of our garden.  As a major feature, an oval lily pond, 35 feet by 15 feet has been built, edged with local stone slabs, to a depth of approximately 30 inches with a shelf nine inches deep for marginal plants.

The pond was lined with concrete, then three coats of sand and cement render, two coats of  epoxy-fibreglass and two coats of bitumen paint; and has a UV filter unit, a fountain and an overflow drainage pipe in case of heavy rain.  Along one side of the pond is an area of granite chippings with a garden bench seat and several large granite stones, each weighing up to three tons.

The result is stunning.  The rest of the site has been levelled and reseeded with grass; and as it is on a gentle slope, field drains have been installed.  A small patio has been built to one side, some dry stone walling built and borders prepared for shrubs and garden plants.  My wife and I are delighted with the finished result.

Previous Work

Three years ago on a sloping site near the house, where a number of mature old trees had to be removed leaving the surface in a very rough state, we decided to terrace the ground into three sections.

Now, on the upper part there is an apple orchard, with granite steps leading down to the middle section which is a walled kitchen garden built with local stone, then granite steps down to a flat, level lawn next to the house.

Lee was responsible for the earth moving and terracing, which included establishing the proper levels for effective surface drainage, as well as concrete footings for the walls and steps.

This was a major project covering half an acre and was completed quickly and to a high standard.  The finished result has made a huge improvement to the garden to the west of the house, where we can now eat out of doors in summer.
